Stranger Mine

Sadly I missed the research lesson in class about seeing what information is on the web about myself. But on my own time I googled myself along with a couple people I know to see what type of information is out there. When I searched myself it actually took me awhile to find my information because there is another Megan Kintner who lives in Arizona. With the information that is provided to the public is very scary.

INFORMATION FOUND
With searching myself I found my Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace. I was surprised when I saw the MySpace because I thought I deleted that account but to see that it was still activated concerned me. When on Google I clicked the images tab to see what pictures are floating around of mine. I was surprised to see how many there were too. I was concerned with seeing the pictures of my daughter and I noticed that those pictures generated from MySpace. With knowing that I went to the website and finally deleted my account.

When searching some family and friends I found the same information that I had for myself especially with them having Facebook accounts. Even looking through the pictures there was only one or two of them with, what seemed, to be a million other people with the same name.

Surprised?
Was I surprised with the amount of information I could find on a stranger? NO!! The one thing I seemed to have ran into many times was having to pay for the information after you answered all the questions or continued to agree to the websites information. That didn't bother me so much for the fact that the information needed to be purchased but what did concern me was that anyone could do it for a low price of $10 a month.

Students
I think not only teachers but parents as well should talk with children about the information that is available on the Internet. There are so many crazy people out in the world that could hurt or kidnap children and they should become aware or more aware that they are leaving digital footprints when adding information to the Internet. Plus children under the age of 13 should have an adult present when on the web so they are not entering onto unsafe web pages.

  1. Sorry that you missed the "live" activity but happy you were still able to complete some of the searches. Great image!
